Leadership skills aim at motivating and influencing other for completion of particular task. This report is based on self-evaluation, which will help in identifying my strengths and weaknesses. Various leadership models will be used to determine the skills and to identify the areas in which I need to improve. This report will also include various development activities that will help in gaining skills and enhancing leadership quality.

Analyzing existing leadership skills

To identify my existing leadership skills, I will use various models that will help in determining my strengths and weaknesses (Hameury, 2020). DISC, Belbin, and Myers-Briggs models will be used to evaluate my leadership style. Implementing this model will help in identifying developmental activities that I need to adopt to overcome my weaknesses.

After applying the DISC model, I have identified that I am focused on achieving particular goals and try my best to achieve the same (Gutiérrez et al, 2019). It has been identified that I like to accept new challenges and focus on performing better than other competitors. I used to support others and have a high level of patience. This indicates that I have the qualities of dominance and steadiness. Through this analysis, I have identified that I lack the quality of persuasiveness and motivation, which makes me to influence others.

From Belbin model of leadership I have identified my strengths and weaknesses. Through this skill I have determine that I have good critical thinking skills as I used to evaluated every possible aspect of the issue before taking final decision. This helps in improving my decision making skills and assist me in identify optimum solution for every issue. I am not having effective communication skills which unable others to understand my views. This creates problem in influencing and motivating other for effective completion of the work.

Myers- Briggs model helps in determining that I have personality of extrovert, thinker, judger and intuition. This indicates that I have made decision after evaluating every possible aspect of the issue and do not take decision on the basis of feeling. This analysis also helps in identifying that I lack the quality of adaptability which makes it difficult for me to adapt all changes quickly.

Identification of Specific Developmental needs

After evaluating my skills on the basis of various models, I have identified that I need to improve my motivation skills, which will help in influencing others for task completion appropriately (Li, 2019). For becoming an effective leader, I need to focus on communication and critical thinking skills, which will help in improving my influencing ability. Enhancing this skill will result into improving other skills, which further helps in overall development. Some of the developmental activities that I will undertake for improving my motivational skills are as follows:

  • For improving my motivational skills, I will focus on establishing SMART goals. I will focus on improving my critical thinking skill, which supports goal-setting according to the capability.
  • Mentoring helps in gaining more information related to topic from experience individuals (Stein and Swan, 2019). I will take part in mentoring session which will help in enhance my existing skills.
  • I will focus on improving my communication skills which helps in influencing others effectually. For this I will take part in story telling competition and paraphrasing activities. It will help in clearly defining my thoughts and help in reducing confusion among listeners.
  • I will focus on enhancing collaboration and cooperation skills that help in improving my motivational skill. For this I will focus on improving my critical thinking skills which will help in understanding mindset of others before taking any decision.

Developmental Activity

I have implemented various developmental activities which help in improving my motivationl skills. Gibbs’ model of reflection will be used to express my opinion on using activities to improve my motivational skills (Gibbs’ reflection cycle, 2020). I have taken mentoring session in which mentor focuses on sharing their experience of how they enhance their motivationl skills. In the first session they share with us the importance of motivational skill for individual and organization which helps in creating self-awareness. Later on they provide various situations and ask us to provide appropriate methods by which we can motivated others. Once we provide our suggestions, mentors give us the best solution which should be implemented in particular situation. This help in enhancing my knowledge and understanding of implementing motivationl skills. I have focused on taking part in various activities for improving my communication skills which result into effectively sharing my ideas and reducing confusion. Along with this, I have taken part in paraphrasing activity in which we need to listen to the speaker and explain the same topic in our own language.

This results into enhancing my listening skills which develops clear understanding of speaker’s point of view. It will help in identifying type of motivation which will help in influence him and provide clear idea regarding their attitude and beliefs. I have focused on improving my critical thinking skill which will help in determine capabilities and ability of other. For this I have taken part in the problem solving activities which involve determine most appropriate solution for the issue after evaluating every possible aspects. This activity helps in getting better insight of the issue and help in developing my critical thinking skill which eventually leads to taking appropriate decision. From developmental activities I was able to enhance my motivationl skills which will help in developing my ability of becoming effective leader.

CONCLUSION

It has been concluded from the report that self-evaluation should be conducted by an individual which will help in identify its capabilities. I have identified that my steadiness, dominance and critical thinking skills are effective. It has been identified that I need to improve my communication and motivations skills which will help in becoming effective leader. I have taken part in storytelling, paraphrasing and mentoring sessions which help in improving my motivational skill.
