Task 1: A Reflection

Part 1

1. The importance of ethics

As per my knowledge, and understanding, ethics is one type of study where either the moral is right or wrong is considered. So, ethics generally create a moral that helps to make the proper decision by aligning with the right or wrong sense. Ethics plays a pivotal role in both the personal, and professional life. The importance of ethics in our lives is limitless. Ethics help us to make sound decisions that are required in situations (from class notes). Ethics has a crucial role to navigate in a landscape of complex situations with the help of moral decisions. Ethics plays an important role in our lives because sometimes we have to make a decision that may be not legal but morally sound. If a person is moral then they can contribute to creating an ethical society, and the values, principles, and behaviours of ethics also help to guide a person (Akhtar et al. 2019). Personal ethics mainly arise from the values, morality, virtue, duty, and principles where morality helps to create our sense to make the difference between good, and bad whereas the values are the actual beliefs that guide a person’s behaviour and help to shape a person’s moral judgements, where the principles are the fundamental rules evaluate the moral action of people. And finally, virtue is the ethical concern that always focuses on building the personal characteristic of a person.

2. Ethical theory

Deontology

The ethical dilemma I am confronted with is effectively handled by the ethical theory of deontology, which emphasises the utmost importance of upholding moral obligations and principles, irrespective of the resulting consequences. This aligns with my own disposition, characterised by a commitment to uphold morally upright principles, even in situations when the outcomes may not be optimal. I am greatly drawn to the broad applicability of Deontology's ideas. The framework offers a robust and reliable foundation to effectively navigate ethical decision-making across many contexts. The steadiness I possess invests a sense of security and confidence in my moral decisions.

Furthermore, I am in complete agreement with the prioritisation of safeguarding individual liberties and entitlements. This statement underscores the need to treat all individuals with equal consideration and respect, aligning with my own values of justice and equality (Atrizka and Pratama, 2022). My own ethical framework aligns closely with the concepts of deontology, which emphasises the importance of responsibility, universal values, and the preservation of individual autonomy. This framework provides me with a robust basis from which to make ethical judgements in a manner that evokes a profound sense of importance and authenticity.

3. Situational analysis

I had a problem throughout my professional experience. I identified an error inside a report that posed a potential risk to the client's interests. I had a strong want to conceal the mistake in order to avoid attracting attention to it, nevertheless, the ethical theory of Deontology compelled me to choose a different course of action. I chose to apprise my supervisor of the discrepancy since it aligned with ethical principles (Piorkowski et al. 2021). I maintained the conviction that it was imperative to follow the principles of integrity and truthfulness, irrespective of the potential adverse repercussions for both myself and my team. Contrary to the expected result, it was my ethical need to behave with integrity that compelled me to arrive to this conclusion.

The whole of the company took note of my efforts, which served as a positive example for my other coworkers. The individuals were motivated by my unwavering dedication to the ethical ideals of Deontology, prompting them to strive for the same moral standards in their own endeavours. Consequently, the team fostered a culture characterised by both responsibility and trust. Through my commitment to Deontological principles, I successfully maintained my moral integrity and served as a catalyst for inspiring ethical behaviour among my peers in their professional endeavours. This experience provided as a poignant reminder of the advantageous and enduring effects that adhering to such convictions may have on both my character and the professional environment.

Part 2

1. Collaboration experience

In a work culture, ethics plays an important role in helping make the decisions, interactions and actions with the clients, colleagues, and organisation. As per my understanding adopting ethical principles does not always align with moral values but is helpful in creating long-term success in the workplace (from class notes).

Upon reflection, I am reminiscing about a past experience in which I engaged in a collaborative effort with a group of individuals to initiate a novel marketing endeavour. The primary aim of our study was to enhance brand awareness and drive sales for the introduction of a new product. The team consisted of a project manager, marketing experts, and graphic designers. I played a significant role in the formulation of the campaign strategy, conducting market research, and generating content (Stringer et al. 2020). In order to optimise the effectiveness of our campaign, we engaged in a collaborative process of idea generation, task allocation, and coordination of our collective endeavours. The collaborative endeavour resulted in a highly successful launch that surpassed our objectives and effectively showcased the significance of cohesive teamwork.

2. Effective teamwork

The key elements to foster effective teamwork that may help to make clear goals and leadership are integrity, fairness, respect, responsibility, and transparency. Integrity in the workplace helps to act with honesty, and truthful, whereas respect helps to make sense of treating others with proper consideration, and dignity (Tseng and Wang, 2021). Fairness is such an element that ensures to treat with equatability for each, and every person in a workplace. On the other hand, responsibility is the key to acknowledgement that fulfils obligations, and finally, transparency is the key element to become open, and accountable for any action in the workplace. These key elements help to make a clear goal, and leadership in the workplace.

I build communication, and trust by employing all the key elements in my life, and behaviour that may help me to make fair decisions, and show respect to each person in a workplace with moral integrity.

3. Skills for the team's performance

Yes, a team with exceptional skill may significantly enhance the team’s performance. If they have the ability to extract valuable information and can evaluate it with proper decision-making then the team can enhance the team’s performance (from class notes). There are five main skills that may contribute to collaboration and teamwork problem identification skills, information gathering skills, skills of considering alternative approaches, and strategies, good choice-making skills, and finally the skill of evaluating the situation, and complexities. The problem-identification skill helps to recognize ethical issues which involve understanding the team’s interests, and values, whereas the information-gathering skill helps to fully understand the complex situation. On the other hand the alternative consideration, choice making, and evaluation help to choose an alternative approach, good choice making, and finally evaluate the critical insight in a workplace.

4. Unexpected challenges

During an essential task phase, my team experienced unplanned technological obstacles. They worked together, drawing on an assortment of skills to come up with unique responses. They changed their strategy as a result and began using a more iterative process of development (Van and Janssen, 2019). Enhanced channels of communication allowed the rapid transfer of important information. Furthermore, they explored additional viewpoints by attending workshops and interacting with experts in the field.

A turning point occurred as a result of the team's effort, which ultimately created a system which was safer and more efficient. The encounter highlighted the value of innovative problem-solving and improved their capacity for adaptability. Also, it enhanced team friendship, which made them better at of handling challenges in the years to come.

5. Lessons from teamwork experience

For an individual, the challenges exposed crucial lessons. They received understanding of the efficacy of collaborative problem-solving and the significance of various perspectives. The importance of open discourse among the team was made apparent by this event. It highlighted the importance of flexibility and the ability to change course when faced with unanticipated obstacles (Zoshak and Dew, 2021). Creative approaches were created through collaboration that could not have been found via a lone effort. It demonstrated that looking above oneself can be helpful for resolving difficult issues. Overall, our knowledge confirmed the idea that collaborating as a team develops resilience and generates greater results. I now have an improved awareness of the strength of a team that is cohesive as an outcome of it.
