Environmental protection is about the practices, which are about protecting the environment, individuals, and groups. This report is based on the case scenario of Tasty Treats Ltd which manufactures the ready-made meals for supermarkets. Report will shed light on environmental protection laws that should be taken by the Old Oak District Council (OODC). The formal steps by the OODC, which have been taken earlier and failed, and the additional alternatives could be used. The report will delve into the legal action that was taken by the OODC and the consequences for the sanctions.

Using the IRAC analysis method, advise the environmental protection officer on what law(s) may apply.

Issue: The Tasty Treat Ltd (TTL) is facing complaints about the environmental issues, noise, water effluents, and odor nuisance from the local residents. The team of old Oak District Council (OODC) has been taking action about the issues.

Rule: The laws can be applied according to the regulations on saving water, noise regulation, and environmental protection. The control of the pollution act such as the Environment Protection Act (1974) suits to the current condition. This is the environmental law in UK which control the waste management and production into the environment (Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, 2023). Application: TTL should focus on increasing hours in the day time and reduce the working hours at night. This will reduce the noise pollution and helps in adhering with the laws. Thus, TTL needs to focus on the sustainable practices which can be taken into action for the environmental friendly practices. Further, for controlling the pollution Environment protection Act (1974), needs to be utilised by the OODC to reduce the pollution and increase the environmental friendly practices (Glicksman 2023). This act can be adopted by OODC to improve the environmental friendly practices of the organization and it is better for the local residence. The water resources Act 1991(WRA) of the UK which regulates the flood defence, water quality and water resources, OODC can implement the law to reduce the waste of water.

The officers can have the practices in the past and the changes which can be made in the future need to be observed. The pollution is harmful for the locals which can cause several diseases and harm to the environment. TTL’s is not following the sustainable practices, officers need to send the warning letter first with the issues and laws. The Team of OODC should have inspection about the water spills in the river which can cause the water pollution. Need to take some formal action than the legal actions if the practices and pollution will not reduce after the warning. The laws can be used after the formal investigation than the use of laws related to the pollution and other environmental related practices. The main issue is about the resident, they are having the issues and it is about the harm on their health and need to be addressed timely.

Conclusion: The OODC should take some strict actions against the TTL because the organization is not focusing on the environmental friendly practices. First the officers need to focus on some action which can be formally such as sending warning letter, investigate about the issues. OODC can address the issues by analysing about the other organization and can reduce the challenges easily.

OODC had decided to take some early formal steps but these then failed to resolve the environmental concerns, explaining the further legal options

If the early formal steps can be failed to resolve the issues the OODC can take some significant steps with the different laws to reduce the practices. The OODC can use the Environmental protection Act 1990 of the UK (Environmental Protection Act 1990, 2023). The Act can ensure pollution control which is arising continuously and the other issues as well. The OODC may take the further steps with the legal laws after the formal steps. The outcome of the initial steps doesn’t work; the officers can resolve the issues by the civil authorisations which can be align with the local people.

The law is concerned about the disposal and water wastage. The Act helps the OODC to strengthen the control over pollution and support the local residence with the heavy penalties. The license of the TTL can be taken if the practices can’t be reduced. The team can take the actions and use the laws related to the pollution. The OODC officers can visit the nearby areas to analysis the impact and the residence have stated about the noises and pollutions. The TTC needs to focus on the working in the day time apart from the night because as shared by the residence the noise range increase in the night time. The OODC needs to include some legislation to reduce the pollution and take some positive steps for local residents.

If further legal action was taken by OODC explain what sanctions may apply and the consequences of those sanctions for TTL

Old Oak District Council (OODC) took some further legal actions to decrease the pollution which is being done by the TTL. The OODC can implement the Environmental protection Act 1990; some sanctions include removal of license, fines, which can be impacted on financially. OODC can take steps by sending TTL a legal notice which can be filled with the issues and related laws (Zhang, Yu and Kong 2019). By informing TTL to take some steps and actions about the environmental issues or legal steps will be taken. The law is related to the controlled waste and knowingly controlled the waste and deposit a waste management license which forces and deposited in accordance with the license.

The OODC can take some immediate actions against the TTL after sending a formal letter; TTL can work on taking some steps like make use of latest technology to decrease the pollution, noise and water wastage. This follows as civil sanctions to avoid the issues and resolving it. The fines could be taken in the heavy amount according to the environmental issues, may be resolved after the fines (Orts 2019). This can affect the reputation and image of TTL on the locals, customers and stakeholders. This can be an economical and potential loss of the organization due to harming the environment. Due to issues, TTL has to face some challenges as well it can break the trust of the customers and regulatory changes. TTL can face some reputational consequences and financial, this can make TTL weak. TTL needs to take some corrective action and resolve the issues by using the technology and communicating with the Old Oak District Council (OODC).

Conclusion

By summing up the report it provides advices for environmental protection laws to officers to reduce the environmental issues which are done by the TTL. The OODC can use some laws such as control of the pollution Act, 1974, water resource Act 1991, the complaints is done by the local residents due to the pollution, noise pollution and water wastage. The report put deeper insight into some initial steps if the formals steps can be failed, The OODC can take some steps according to the laws and legislations. The laws can be more effective than the formals steps which are not working well. Sanctions such as heavy penalties, removing the license can be more effective and make some changes in the TTL.
